In Memory of our Father

Norman E. Green
September 5, 1942 - October 23, 2003

Norman E. Green, 61 of York, owner of Norm Green Realty and Auction, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003 in British Columbia, Canada.

He was born Sept. 5, 1942, in York to George A. and Mary E. (Turek) Green. Norm was a 1960 graduate of McCool Junction High School and a longtime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool. He married Sharon (Albro) Mongan on Nov. 28, 1965. They had three children, Michelle, Kristi and Scott.

He started out in construction, building houses when he was first married, with Cunningham's in York and then started his real estate and auction career. Norm received his realtor's and broker's license from the State of Nebraska in the late 60s and his appraiser's license in the early 70s. He also attended several auction schools and seminars throughout his career.

Norm first worked for Dale Hanna Realty and Auction. He began his own business, Norm Green Realty and Auction from the ground up in 1968. He was a great realtor and auctioneer and passed this on to his daughters, Michelle and Kristi, who also joined the family business years ago and they will continue on as Norm wished.

Norm was a longtime active member in the York business community. He was a member of the Nebraska Realtors Assoc., National Assoc. of Realtors, Blue River Area Board of Realtors, Certified Auctioneer's Institute, Nebraska Auctioneer's Assoc., National Auctioneer's Assoc., York Chamber of Commerce, voted York's #1 auctioneer, board member for York Habitat for Humanity, York Country Club and several other boards and service clubs throughout the years.

Norm's greatest passion was auctioneering. He did lots of volunteer work during his 38-year career. One of his favorites was the Boy Scout Auction. Other charitable auctions include work for Emmanuel Lutheran Church, St. Joseph's Church and several other churches in the community. Also, Ducks Unlimited Banquets, Nebraska Football Coaches Stag, York Country Club Member Guest Calcutta, York Heart Assoc., classroom visits with children and other volunteer auctions over the years. Auctions took Norm across the state, including several unique sales for bankruptcy trustees.

Norm's other passion, of course, was hunting. He enjoyed all aspects of the sport including fishing in Alaska and all over the states, big game hunting in Canada, mostly in British Columbia. He enjoyed wild asparagus and mushroom hunting along the Big Blue, frog hunting at the cabin, turkey hunting and so much more! He was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Ross) Ronne and Kristi (Scott) Dewey both of York; his mother, Mary A. Green of York; granddaughters, Paige Dewey, Breanne Ronne and Baby Girl Ronne of York; grandsons, Tyler Dewey and Evan Ronne of York; sister, Joanne (Gary) Langford of Beatrice; nephews, Chad (Elizabeth) Langford and Corey (Kristi) Langford, both of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Green and son, Scott A. Green.

Funeral services were held at 2:01 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Ninth and Beaver in York. Regarding the 2:01 time for the funeral, it was Norm's trademark to start all his auctions one minute past the hour or half hour. The family thought it would be appropriate to start his funeral the same way.
